Always tried to do things the right way- strictly by the book
Bound to the straight and narrow- wouldn’t even take a look
At anything where there was any risk, any way that I might lose
Always the sure shot, always the safe bet
That’s the one that I would choose


Well, in spite of all of my efforts thing didn’t quite work out
All my careful best laid plans- well, they never quite came about
Mama said, Daddy said, but what about me?
Didn’t leave me happy didn’t set me free
So here’s a chance that I’m ready to take
